A Season Finale Showcase - Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Finale de la Saison - Celebrate the music of the season past & showcase repertoire for the year ahead - Tim Sharp in Montréal!

Dear Choral Colleagues,

One of the four initiatives I set for the American Choral Directors Association as I began my work as director is one I am attempting to achieve in my personal work as a choral conductor. That initiative is to open our singers up to world choral experiences.

To this end I have asked KIconcerts to work with me to build a signature event that brings high school, community, and church choirs together in celebration, education, and performance, and to do so in one of the world’s loveliest cities, Montréal, Canada.

In my personal work I find that things look differently when I reflect from the perspective of a mountain top, the roof of a building, a place outside my normal sphere of activity, and certainly, from a different frame of reference. That is why I have selected Montréal as a place to celebrate and reflect on our art, and that is why I have selected Memorial Day Weekend 2011 as the time for this Festival event.

This Season Finale Showcase, or Finale de la Saison, that I would like to invite you and your choir to experience takes place near the end of our program and performance year, and as such, we will celebrate the year in performance as well as learn from each other. You will note the opportunities for small, individual choir concerts in Montréal (your option) as well as a gathered festival performance. You will learn new and exciting music for your coming year, while you and your choir celebrate the year that has just concluded. You will do this in a place that will be both international and “mountain top”, still in North America, but at a domestic price. And finally, the experience will be intergenerational as we enjoy the full spectrum of youth and adult choral performance.

I invite you to join me and other choral colleagues and choirs for this unique celebration.

- Tim Sharp
