MESSAGE FROM ELAINE
I invite you to join other fine Canadian choirs in China in 2010.Shanghai is hosting the 2010 World Expo. I was recently there to be briefed on progress towards this breathtaking event and to meet Canadian Consulate staff. The Expo honors each of the countries represented there with celebrations for their national day. Our festival will celebrate the Canadian presence at the Expo with spectacular concerts and the gala combined performance.
I hope you share my excitement for the potential this world stage offers Canadian choirs and that you will consider joining us.A chance to perform on the largest of the world’s stages offers unique opportunities for distinctive ensembles.
DESTINATION
China has a proud history of civilization spanning more than 5000 years. In 1973 President Nixon visited China marking the most recent opening to the West. Since that time China has been transformed and as a result is now transforming the world. There is so much ancient and recent history to be seen by visitors – especially those to Beijing and Xi’an. There is a living and contemporary history to be experienced and savored through cultural exchange opportunities. There is also a vision of the future on display especially in Shanghai, an emerging and dazzling giant of a city.
Shanghai was awarded the right to host the prestigious World Expo in part because of its growing reputation as one of the greatest of all cities. The Expo will be a monumental showcase of China’s history and place in the world while it follows the tradition of the silk route traders by bringing the world together. Over 200 nations will be featured under the theme of Better City Better Living presenting their best to the expected 70 million visitors.
China is a hospitable, awe inspiring and safe destination. China is a mysterious, highly cultured and dazzling country. China is a country in which our ‘United in Harmony’ performance program will build bridges between cultures and create the understanding that the world clamors for.
