In Memory of Michael Clohesy (1952–2025)
Our world is brighter, and the connective spirit of music amplified because of Michael Clohesy.
Michael and his husband, Oliver, shared a vision and built KI Concerts together into an international leader in performance travel. Michael was both architect and steady hand, guiding KI through its formative decades, expanding its reach, and ensuring that hundreds of choirs, bands, and orchestras could share their music and fellowship across borders.
Their marriage was one of love, creativity and commitment. Together, they created opportunities for performers to connect across cultures, for communities to be built through shared song, and for music to act as a bridge to understanding. Michael and Oliver were a remarkable pair that encompassed the very best of us all and cultivated a diverse and beautiful circle of intimate friends across many continents.
Among those friends is the inimitable Craig Hella Johnson, whose reflections lift us during these difficult days:
“Michael possessed that rare combination of quiet wisdom and fierce compassion—a gentle soul who carried within him an oceanic depth of intelligence and purpose. Behind his warm smile and quick wit lay a quiet warrior who fought tirelessly for justice and equality, never taking himself too seriously even while taking on the most serious cultural battles of our time.
His partnership with Oliver was nothing short of extraordinary—together they created not just a business, but a legacy that continues to connect hearts and cultures through the transformative power of music.”
Michael’s legacy will indeed live on in the global stages where KI Concerts ensembles perform, in the bonds forged among the musicians and families who travel with us, and in the sustained impact of the organization he helped to create. His KI family misses him dearly. And we will carry his spirit forward with gratitude, respect, and love, while keeping our dear friend and colleague Oliver — and all who loved Michael — in our hearts.
